The Britannia. Note this is the early version of the model with
the smaller, solid front bogies.
The chassis seems to be the same one that is used on the later Mallard
and Flying Scotsman. The bottom plate which retains the axles
on this model is solid metal. The Mallard and Scotsman plates
are plastic and have the brake mouldings to add to the realism.
The plastic versions are fragile, however, and can break around the
screw holes.
Detail of the front part of the chassis.
Detail of motor and tender. The tender is the same as that found
on the Evening Star.
This is the only side view that I have of the Mallard Chassis.
Shown here without the valve gear and with a substitute baseplate
which does not have the brake mouldings. The later Britannia
model and the equivalent Bodicea both have front bogies which are
the same as the ones on this Mallard Chassis.
