Classic UK Minitrix Models - The A4 Class Introduction The Minitrix Mallard is the centre piece of many an N-gauge collection. Superbly engineered and runs beautifully when it is in good trim. Highly geared, it was was always fast and always with electrical pickup on loco and tender it is never baulked by track joints or insulated points. And then after sitting in a box in the loft for many years, its re-introduction to a new layout showed that it had developed a wobble, and the wobble got worse, and then I tried to fix it. It never ran smoothly again. More recently I decided to make a more determined effort to mend it and in doing so I solved a multitude of little problems. The problem is that these machines are so small and so intricate, that a quick fix often causes other problems. A new approach - taking it to bits and cleaning and servicing each part, worked wonders. This mini site was originally dedicated to do with getting a Hornby Minitrix Mallard back into fully working condition again. At one point, this was the only set of pages on the site. Its grown a bit since then, as has my collection of these classic n-gauge models Please note that I have nothing to do with Trix, Minitrix or Märklin Inc. whose trademarks I respect and acknowledge. The information and opinions on this web site are my own and are provided as a record of my own experiences of maintaining a Minitrix model. They are not provided as a definitive instruction manual. |
