Minitrix produced 3 small steam model locomotives for Hornby in 1972/73, with a later green BR variant of the 2-6-2 model 2MT in 1982.

The two Ivatt 2MT locos, (front and rear) are very similar in construction, have the same motor and running gear. The 2-6-2 version (front) is longer and has extra weight in the small coal bunker behind the driver's cab.  This model does not require traction tyres, whereas the 2-6-0 model (rear) does.

The Fowler Dock Tank (middle) has a metal body and is quite weighty.  All 3 axles provide pickup and it is quite sprightly and for such a short wheelbase, runs well over points.  An excellent 'toy' train, it bears Hornby Minitirx's lowest model number N201, and was included in what appears to be their first complete model train set - a goods train set complete with oval of track, N101 priced at £20.50 in 1979.
