Classic UK Minitrix Models  -  History
Class 42 Warships

The Class 42 makes an early appearance in the Minitrix 1970/71 catalogue as model numbers 2034 and 2035 - shown as an artist's impressions rather than as photographs, and bearing the names Spartan and Vanguard for the blue and green models respectively.  Whether or not these models were actually produced, I do not know.  The same page of the 1970 catalogue shows an early Britannia which appears to have been drawn from a photo of the OO gauge model.  The same may be true of the drawings of the Class 42 models.

The BR Blue Class 42 is shown in the Jan 1974 Hornby Minitrix Catalogue as New - N206.  The drawn picture shows 'Eclipse' and the price list just describes it as 'Warship' Diesel Loco.  10.95  By August 1976 it was 15.95

N208 is listed as a new model for Spring in the 1979 Hornby Minitrix Price List at 19.25 and is shown as a photograph as a new item in the (undated) catalogue which was available at the same time.

There are a few variations in design - notably an earlier style with a separate chassis for the bogies (like those above).  Later versions have a continuous lower body.
